Tom Cruise and Mark Wahlberg are not feuding over a Jack Reacher reboot, despite a made-up tabloid report. Gossip Cop can debunk the bogus story. It’s completely made-up.
“Shooter Wahlberg Guns For Tom’s Job,” reads a headline in the latest issue of the Globe. Cruise starred as private investigator Jack Reacher in a 2012 film and its 2016 sequel, but according to the magazine, Wahlberg has been telling industry pals that he wants to steal the series and “revamp” it for himself.
“Mark says he was born to play this role and has got his people looking acquiring a piece of the franchise, too,” a supposed source tells the outlet. “That’s not going to go down well with Tom.” The alleged insider goes on to say that Cruise has taken “a dim view to Mark’s aggressive business behavior, but Mark is forging ahead and couldn’t care less.”
Gossip Cop checked in with an individual in Wahlberg’s camp, who tells us the tabloid’s report is simply false. We’re assured the actor has no plans to reboot Jack Reacher and isn’t at odds with Cruise over a nonexistent scenario. It’s worth noting, Wahlberg has several films in development at the moment. The actor is next set to star in a big-screen adaptation of the ’70s TV series, “The Six Billion Dollar Man.” There’s not a single Hollywood trade publication reporting anything about the actor circling a Jack Reacher reboot.
It should be noted, the Globe has a habit of taking two random stars and throwing them into a fake battle. Gossip Cop previously busted the magazine for falsely claiming George Clooney and Will Smith were in a secret feud stemming from jealousy. We also called out the publication for creating a fake feud between Clint Eastwood and Mick Jagger, who were said to be fighting over a 23-year-old woman.
Gossip Cop also debunked the outlet’s ridiculous story about Ellen DeGeneres and Reese Witherspoon feuding because the actress launched her own talk show. However, Witherspoon’s talk show was a limited DirecTV series consisting of nine episodes that were only available on-demand. The “Big Little Lies” star never competed with DeGeneres’ daytime talk show, which she appeared on just last month.
The tabloid’s countless stories featuring two celebrities at war have more in common with fan fiction than journalism. Cruise and Wahlberg aren’t in any sort of showdown over an imaginary Jack Reacher reboot. Gossip Cop can confirm the narrative is totally fabricated.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
