Robin Williams NOT Murdered By Drug Dealers, Despite Report

A sensational report in one of this week’s tabloids alleges that Robin Williams‘ suicide was a cover-up and that he was actually murdered by drug dealers. The story is speculative, illogical and entirely untrue. Gossip Cop can debunk the ridiculous conspiracy theory.

The cover of this week’s Globe reads, “Finally After 4 Years… Found! Robin Williams Murder Weapon.” The accompanying article says the late comedy star was “murdered with a blood splattered knife found at the scene of his death.” From the very start, there are holes in this story. The pocket knife in question was found near Williams when police discovered his body in August 2014. Even if the magazine’s premise about the actor being stabbed to death were true, which it isn’t, how is it that the weapon was “found” four years later? The knife has been known about since the time of the actor’s passing.

Additionally, Marin County coroners revealed at the time of Williams’ suicide that he had “superficial cuts on his left wrist.” A superficial wound only causes injury to the topmost layer of the skin and doesn’t result in bleeding to death. Instead, autopsy results revealed that the cause of Williams’ death was asphyxia and hanging. Once again, the tabloid’s far-fetched tale doesn’t add up. Even if Williams was murdered by drug dealers, which he wasn’t, the outlet’s story would only hold a minimal amount of weight if it said the killers strangled him to death. Globe, however, is going with the flawed premise that the assailants used a knife.

As for a motive behind the “murder,” the tabloid theorizes that after kicking his cocaine addiction, Williams “could have left dealers angry he was no longer a customer, or he quit while still owing them money.” However, Williams’ widow Susan Schneider revealed in a 2015 interview with ABC News that her husband had been “completely clean and sober” for eight years when he died. Using the tabloid’s faulty logic, the drug dealers that killed Williams either waited around for eight years until becoming upset that he was no longer a customer, or it took them eight years to realize he owed them money.

Meanwhile, many of late actor’s loved ones have spoken about his death over the years, but not a single one of them has ever suspected foul play. Back in 2016, Williams’ widow penned an essay detailing the final months of her husband’s life, during which he was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia, a progressive disease that results in impaired thinking, memory loss, paranoia and other mental disorders. “Robin was losing his mind and he was aware of it,” Schneider wrote in her essay. “Can you imagine the pain he felt as he experienced himself disintegrating?”

Billy Crystal revealed in a biography about Williams that he also witnessed the demise of the comic’s health during his final days. “He was thinner and he seemed a little frail,” said Crystal. In that same biography, Williams’ makeup artist said the comedian often turned to her for emotional support while “sobbing” on the set of Night of the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, and also had trouble remembering his lines.

It’s clear that Williams’ brain disease took a toll on his mental state and played a major factor in his suicide. No one who knew the actor personally has ever come close to suggesting that his death was at the hands of drug dealers or anyone else. Not a single aspect of the tabloid’s story makes sense, including the explanation for how Williams died and the motives behind an alleged “murder.”

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
