A new tabloid cover story declaring an “explosive showdown” between Kelly Ripa and Megyn Kelly is made-up. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk this sensationalized report.
The former Fox News anchor is gearing up to host the third hour of the “Today” show at 9 a.m. on NBC, opposite Ripa’s ABC talk show “Live with Kelly & Ryan.” Now that the two TV personalities will be competing in the same time slot, the National Enquirer decided to concoct a so-called “vicious feud” between them. A supposed “source” tells the magazine, “Megyn is going after Kelly full-throttle because her career depends on it… Megyn is extremely jealous of Kelly, and she’s basically told her, ‘I’m going to take you down – I’m going to destroy you!’”
The outlet’s dubious insider goes on to say Ripa feels betrayed because Kelly supposedly used a clip of her November 2016 guest-hosting spot on “Live” as part of her audition reel for “Today.” “To Kelly, that was lower than low,” says the questionable source, who adds, “Now she’s vowed to get even by crushing Megyn in the ratings. Kelly regrets the day she let Megyn be her co-host. She wishes she’d never let that woman use her as a stepping-stone on her own soundstage.”
The tabloid’s alleged insider goes on to claim Kelly is convinced she can beat “Live” in the ratings because Ripa “isn’t a real newswoman like she is.” “There can only be one ‘Kelly’ on TV at 9 a.m., so this is going to be the biggest catfight of the century!” dramatically declares the possibly nonexistent source. And while all very theatrical, the story is not at all accurate.
Naturally, both TV stars want their shows to succeed at the 9 a.m. hour, but the outlet’s assertion they’re in a personal battle with one another is simply false. Kelly will be anchoring a news program mostly focusing on serious world events, while Ripa co-hosts a light-hearted talk show. Despite the programs sharing the same time slot, their content is different and appeals to separate audiences. The women are no more at “war” than Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon or James Corden and Seth Meyers, who also share time slots.
Regardless of the magazine’s story being completely exaggerated, Gossip Cop still checked in with sources close to both TV hosts, and we’re exclusively assured they’re not engaged any sort of personal feud. The on-air personalities may have competing shows, but they also have mutual respect for one another. Simply put, the Enquirer‘s report is drastically blown out of proportion.
In fact, this isn’t the first time we’ve had to call out the publication for pushing this same false narrative. Gossip Cop busted the tabloid in March when it similarly alleged Ripa and Kelly were in a nasty feud. The story wasn’t true then, and it isn’t any more accurate now.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
