1: Carl Edwards
24: Aric Almirola, No. 43 Smithfield Ford
27: Brian Scott, No. 44 Albertons/Tom Thumb Ford
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Richard Petty Motorsports headed to the big state of Texas for the series’ first night race. Teams practiced Thursday before qualifying Friday afternoon. Both RPM teams worked on handling during first practice and improved for today’s qualifying session.
Aric Almirola and the No. 43 Smithfield Ford struggled with a really tight racecar in the second round of qualifying and will start 24th. Brian Scott and the No. 44 Albertsons/Tom Thumb team also saw improvement in qualifying but have some work to do on the car’s handling in Turns 3 and 4. They will start 27th.
Comments from Almirola after qualifying at Texas:
”Our first lap in Round 1 was great. Our No. 43 Smithfield Ford Fusion felt really good. It was a little snug in the corners but was good otherwise. When we went out for Round 2, the car was just significantly tighter than it was before. Not sure what caused the change. We made a trackbar adjustment to see if that would help with our second attempt, but it wasn’t enough.
Đang xem: Duck commander 500 qualifying
Texas is just a hard track to get a hold of. We’ll work on it during final practice to get it running how we need for the race tomorrow “
Comments from Scott after qualifying at Texas:
”We definitely improved today from yesterday’s practice. We were much better in Turns 1 and 2 today, but we just weren’t quite there. We unloaded a little off yesterday and that put us behind. Thankfully, tomorrow night’s race is 500 miles, and we’ll have plenty of time to make our way to the front. We’ll focus on getting the handling better in Turns 3 and 4 in tonight’s practice and hopefully be good for the race tomorrow.”
