Legend:


Drill no.1 – “Snake”

Description:

The player at the end of the line starts and runs slalom with the ball (forwards or backwards) between other players. As soon as he reaches the beginning of the line, joins the line with an appropriate distance. Meanwhile the second player is continuing. Players start quickly one after another.

Rotation:

Around the ring or half of the ring.

Variations:

– Spin around every player

– Players in line use their sticks to impede

– Alternative stick holding

– Different ways of leading the ball

Don’t forget to change the drill rotation.


Drill no.2 – “Relays”

Description:

Players are divided into teams. Each team has the same number of players as the other teams. At the signal, the teams run a relay race. The fastest team wins. In the picture you can see what every player must do. First he leads the ball backwards around the first two cones, then he turns forwards and spins around the next two cones, passes the ball to the second player in his line and runs behind the fifth cone to get the pass back. Afterwards, he jumps over the rink barrier, leads the ball through the small open gate, jumps back over the rink barrier and runs around the team line where he passes the ball to next player.

Variations:

– Any other kind of tasks when running the relay


Drill no.3 – “Speed race”

Description:

Players are divided into teams. Each team is in line behind a cone.  At the signal, the first player of each team runs with the ball around all cones and passes the ball to the second player in the line. The fastest team wins.

Variations:

– The player runs backwards

– The player leads more than one ball

– The player holds the stick only in one hand

– Variable running

Don’t forget to change the drill rotation.


Drill no.4 – “Slalom”

Description:

Players run the slalom type A-D (as you can see in the picture). They lead the ball along the same path they run or along another path around the cones.

Variations:

– Variable running

– The player leads more than one ball

– The player carries the ball in the air

– The player is simultaneously leading one ball and kicking another


Drill no.5 – “Slalom”

Description:

Players run the slalom type A-D (as you can see in the picture). They lead the ball along the same path they run or along another path around the cones.

Description:

Drill no.7 – “Slalom”

Description:

Players run the slalom type A-D (as you can see in the picture). They lead the ball along the same path they run or along another path around the small goals/gates.

– The player carries the ball in the air

– The player is simultaneously leading one ball and kicking another one


Drill no.8 – “Passes in motion”

Description:

A: Player 1 runs  from the rink barrier towards Player 2, passes the ball to him and runs backwards back to the start position. Player 2 continues.

B: Player 2 receives the ball form Player 1, runs with the ball backwards to the rink barrier, passes the ball back to Player 1 and runs back to the start position. Player 1 continues.

Variations:

– Spin before or after the passing of the ball

– Alternative stick holding

– Different types of passing the ball


Drill no.9 – “3 players passes with run overs”

Description:

A – Player 1 passes the ball to Player 2 and runs to his position. Player 2 passes the ball to Player 3 and runs to his position too. Player 3 continues. The rotation is “where you pass, there you go”.

B – Player 1 passes the ball to Player 2, Player 2 passes the ball back to Player 1 and he passes the ball back to Player 2 (3 passes altogether), then Player 2 passes the ball to Player 3, Player 3 passes the ball back to Player 2 and he passes the ball back to Player 3 who is now starting the next set of passes. The rotation is “where you pass, there you go”.

Variations:

– Different types of passing the ball


Drill no.10 – “3 players in motion”

Description:

Player 2 passes one ball to running Player 1 and Player 3 passes another ball to running Player 2 simultaneously. Then Player 1 passes the ball to Player 2 and Player 2 passes the ball to Player 3 etc. All players are in motion and they can cross in corners.

Rotation:

In corners – 1-3, 2-2, 3-1.

Variations:

– Players change the direction of the drill after each passing the ball

– Reversed holding of stick

– Different ways of passing the ball

Don’t forget to change the drill rotation (around the rink).


Drill no.11 – “Give and Go”

Description:

Players stand in the formation which you can see in the picture. Player 1 runs and passes the ball to every player in the formation who then passes the ball back to him. Then runs Player 2, 3, 4 …

Rotation:

At the end the running player joins the formation in an appropriate distance .

Variations:

– Variable running

– Spin before or after the passing of the ball

– Different ways of passing the ball

Drill no.12 – “Polygons”

Description:

Players pass the ball as you can see in the picture. Where the player passes there he goes.

Rotation:

A: 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-1.
B: 1-2, 2-3, 3-1.

Variations:

– Different shape of polygon

– Alternative stick holding

– Different ways of passing the ball

– Players run in the opposite direction than they pass the ball

Drill no.13 – “One-touch passes”

Description:

Player 1 passes the ball to Player 2 and runs to his position. Player 2 passes the ball to Player 3 (one-touch) and runs to his position. Then Player 3 continues etc.

Rotation:

1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6, 6-7, 7-8, 8-10, 10-9, 9-1.

Variations:

– Variable running

– Alternative stick holding

– Different ways of passing the ball

Don’t forget to change the drill rotation (around the rink).


Drill no.14 – “Passes with obstacles”

Description:

Players in pairs pass the ball with the use of benches or small gates.

A: the ball goes between the benches without touching them.
B: the ball goes through the gate.
C: the ball goes as a high pass with two jumps leaping over the benches.
D: the ball goes as a high pass over the bench.
E: the ball goes between the benches bouncing off them.

Variations:

– With two balls simultaneously


Drill no.15 – “V”

Description:

Three players stand in the corners of a square (one position is empty). Player 1 (who is in the middle of an imaginary shape V) passes the ball to Player 2 and Player 3 is meanwhile running to the empty position (this ensures that the ball is in the middle of the shape V again). Player 2 is now free to pass the ball to Player 1 or Player 3 and the situation is repeated.

Rotation:

The ball must always be in the middle of the shape V.

Drill no.16 – “Run around”

Description:

Player 1 passes the ball to Player 2 and runs around him. Player 3 passes the ball twice with Player 3 and then passes the ball to the running Player 1. Player 1 passes the ball back to Player 3 and continues running. Player 2 and Player 3 pass the ball three times and then Player 3 passes the ball to the running Player 1. Player 1 passes the ball to Player 3, goes to his position and Player 3 starts the drill again.

Rotation:

1-2, 3-1, 2-3

Variations:

– Different ways of passing the ball

– Variable running

Drill no.17 – “Passes in circle”

Description:

There are two teams (A, B) standing in the circle. Players of each team pass the ball in the direction of the circle (A to right, B to left).

Variations:

– Passes with more than one ball

– More teams

– Free passes (player can pass the ball to any other player of his choice)

– “Where you pass, there you go” run overs

Don’t forget to change the drill rotation.


Drill no.18 – “Run overs in circle”

Description:

Players are standing in a circle. Player 1 passes the ball to the player of his choice (to Player#3 on the picture) and follows the ball to his position. Player who receives the pass continues passing and following ball to another’s player position etc.

– Different ways of passing

– Variable running


Drill no.19 – “Piggy in the middle”

Description:

Players are standing in a circle, one player is in the middle. Player passes ball to each other and the player in the middle attempts to intercept the pass. If he catches the ball, he replaces the player whom he caught the ball and the player whose ball was caught goes in the middle.

Variations:

– Different ways of passing

– Limited number of touches on the ball

– More players in the middle


Drill no.20 – “Envelope”

Description:

Players line up in four corners of a rectangle/square. Passing of ball goes in order 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-1.

Rotation (after pass):

A-B, B-C, C-D, D-A

Variations:

– Passing with two balls (A and B starts)

– Alternative stick holding

– Different ways of passing

– Different distance/position of players

Drill no.21 – “U-turns”

Description:

Players stand in dice five shape. Ball passing goes: 1-2, 2-5, 5-1; and simultaneously 4-5, 5-3, 3-4. The middle player (5) is turning around.

Rotation:

1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, 5-1

Variations:

– Alternative stick holding

– Different ways of passing

– Include passes between players 1-4, 2-3

Drill no.22 – “Running over”

Description:

A – Players#1 and #2 pass the ball in turns to Player#3 who runs back and forth between cones.

B – Player#1 passes the ball to Player#3 who runs with the ball behind the goal, passes the ball to Player#4 who then passes the ball back to Player#2 and he back to Player#3. Repeat in opposite direction.

Rotation:

A: 1-2,2-3, 3-1

B: 1-3,3-4,4-2,2-3

Variations:

Drill no.23 – “Running over II”

Description:

A – Players#1, 2, 3, and #4 all with ball pass in turns to Player #5 who is moving in the specified area. Player #5 passes the ball back one touch to the same player.

B – Player #1 and #2 pass the ball in turns to Player 3 who runs back and forth in a set area.

Rotations:

A: 1-2, 2-3,3-4,4-5, 5-1

B: 1-2, 2-3, 3-1

Variations:

– Alternative stick holding

Drill no.24 – “Kim’s Square (Union Jack Flag)”

Description:

Eight players are standing in a square shape. Player #1 and Player #5 pass the ball at the same time to the player on the right and immediately switch position. The same then continue with Players #2 and #6, #3 and #7 etc.

Rotation:

1+5, 2+6, 3+7, 4+8

Variations:

– Alternative stick holding

– Different ways of passing

– Variable running

Drill no.25 – “Square”

Description:

All Players have a ball and start running backwards at the same time. Midway through the distance they pass the ball at the same time to the player moving to their starting position. (1 to 4, 4 to 3, 3 to 2, 2 to 1). Timing of the pass is crucial!

Rotation:

1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-1

Variations:

– Cross passes (1-3, 2-4, 3-1, 4-2)

– Alternative stick holding

– Different ways of passing

– Variable running

Drill no.26 – “Diamond”

Description:

Same as the previous drill only the position of Players within the rink is different.


Drill no.27 – “Pivotal passing”

Description:

Player #1 (P1) runs and receives a pass from stationary Player N1. After few steps with the ball he/she passes the ball to stationary Player N2. P1 continues moving forward and after few more steps he/she turns and runs backwards. P1 receives pass from Player N1 and passes the ball back to him by one touch pass.  P1 continues running spins around and receives pass from Player N2. P1 then passes the ball to Player N1 and continues running. P1 turns and runs backwards,  receives pass from N2 and passes the ball back to him by one touch. After that he joins the line. Player #2 continues.

Rotation:

1-5, 5-4, 4-3, 3-2, 2-1

Variations:

– Different ways of passing

– Variable running

Drill no.28 – “Triangle”

Description:

Player #1 (starting from the top cone) passes the ball to Player #2, Player #1 then runs forward and receives pass from Player #2, he/she runs with the ball and passes the ball to Player# 2 again who in meantime moves to the cone #3. Player #1 finishes at the Player #2 original position (cone #2). Player 2 continues moving towards the top cone and passes with Player #3.

Rotation:

1-2, 2-3, 3-4(1)

Variations:

– Different ways of passing

– Variable running

– Alternative stick holding

Drill no.29 – “Hexagon”

Description:

Player #1 passes the ball to Player #2, he/she runs forward and receives the pass from Player #2. Player #1 passes the ball to Player#3 and goes to the original position of Player #2. Player #2 runs forward and receives pass from Player #3 after passing the ball to Player #1. Player #2 then passes the ball to Player #4 and goes to the starting position of Player #3. Player #3 continues followed by Player #4, 5 and #6. The drill continues around.

Rotation:

1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6, 6-7(1), etc.

Variations:

– Different ways of passing

Drill no.30 – “Cross Rectangle I”

Description:

Player #1 passes the ball to the Player #2 who passes the ball back to Player #1. Player #1 then passes the ball to Player #3 and both Players #1 and #2 change their positions. Players #3 and #4 do the same as Players #1 and #2. The drill continues around.

Rotation:

1-2 and 3-4 / then 1-4, 4-1, 2-3, 3-2

Variations:

– Different ways of passing

– Variable running


Drill no.31 – “Cross Rectangle II”

Description:

Player #1 passes the ball to the Player #2 who is moving over in his/her direction. Player #1 then runs towards Player #2. Player #2 passes the ball back to Player #1 who after few steps passes the ball to Player #3. Players #1 and #2 swap position. Players #3 and #4 copy the move of Players #1 and #2. The drill continues around.

Rotation:

1-2 and 3-4 / then 1-4, 4-1, 2-3, 3-2

Variations:

– Different ways of passing

– Variable running


Drill no.32 – “Zigzag shooting”

Description:

Players start running quickly towards the goal one after another in few meter gaps. After few steps they alternate one to left and the second to the right (zigzag) and shoot from predetermined spot by predetermined shooting style (e.g. dragged shot, slap shot etc.)

Rotation:

1-8, 8-7, 7-6, 6-5, 5-4, 4-3, 3-2, 2-1

Variations:

– Variable running

– Different styles of shooting


Drill no.33 – “Corners”

Description:

Players run with balls one after another in few meter gaps around the cones, in the middle they cross and shoot on one of the goals.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Drill no.34 – “Crossed shooting”

Description:

Players start running quickly towards the goal one after another in few meter gaps. They shoot criss cross from predetermined spot by predetermined shooting style (e.g. dragged shot, slap shot etc.)

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Alternative stick holding

– Variable running

– Different styles of shooting

– Playing the rebounds

– Players screen the goalie

Don’t forget to change the goalies.


Drill no.35 – “Corners after one-touch pass”

Description:

Player B1 starts, runs and behind the cone he/she receives pass from Player B2 and pass the ball one-touch back to B2, then continues to the goal, receives pass from A1 and shoots. Player A1 continues.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Different position (distance from the goal) of the cone

– Variable running

– Different styles of passing

– Playing the rebounds

– Players screen the goalie


Drill no.36 – “One-timers”

Description:

Player 1 starts from half of the rink, runs without the ball to the center, receives pass from Player 2 and shoots (one-timer). Player 2 continues.

Rotation:

1-5, 5-4, 4-3, 3-2, 2-1

Variations:

 

– Before shooting, pass to the goalie and back

Don’t forget to change the drill rotation.


Drill no.37 – “Flowing corners”

Description:

Players stand as you can see in the picture. Player 1 starts without the ball, receives pass from Player 2, leads the ball and shoots. Player 2 continues and all players moves forward to next position.

Rotation:

1-8, 8-6, 6-4, 4-2, 2-9, 9-7, 7-5, 5-3,3-1

Variations:

– Alternative stick holding

– Variable running

– Different ways of leading the ball

– Spins or other tasks when moving to next position


Drill no.38 – “One-timer after spin”

Description:

Player B1 passes the ball to Player A1, runs forward and do a spin around the cone, then he get the pass back from Player A1 and shoots immediately (one-timer). Player A1 continues.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Playing the rebounds

– Players screen the goalie

– Variable running


Drill no.39 – “Quick one-timers”

Description:

Players runs from corner in intervals. Player 1 passes the ball to Player 10 and he shoots immediately (one-timer) and then he goes to screen the goalie. Other players continue in the same manner.

Rotation:

1-8, 8-9, 9-10, 10-11, 11-7,

7-6,6-5, 5-4, 4-3, 3-2, 2-1

Variations:

– Shorter or longer intervals

– Variable running

Drill no.40 – “Two one-timers”

Description:

Players A1 and B1 run to the goal, they get passes from Players N1 and N2 and shoot simultaneously. Players A2 and B2 continue.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Different styles of passing

– Different styles of shooting

– Shooting on two goals

– Before passing to shooting players, Players N1 and N2 passes the balls to each other.


Drill no.41 – “Upper corners”

Description:

Player A1 starts running to the goal, gets pass from Player B1 and shoots immediately (one-timer). Player B1 continues.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Alternative stick holding

– Variable running

– Different styles of shooting

– Players tip-in the shots


Drill no.42 – “Drill from half”

Description:

Player A1 passes the ball to Player B1, runs the curve to the middle, receives pas from Player B1, leads to ball to the goal and shoots. Player B1 continues.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Variable running

– Different ways of leading the ball

– Dangling instead shooting


Drill no.43 – “One-timers”

Description:

Player C1 runs with ball in a direction to the center of the rink, then passes the ball without turning to Player B1 who shoots (one timer) on the closer goal. Players D1 and A1 are doing the same at the same time on the right half of the rink. Then players C2, D2, B2, A2 continue.

Rotation:

A-D, B-C, C-A, D-B

Variations:

– Variable running

– Different ways of leading the ball

– Pass to Player A1 instead of B1

– Screening player in the crease


Drill no.44 – “One-timers

Description:

Player A1 runs without a ball, receives pass from Player C1 and shoots (one timer). Player B1 and D1 are doing the same on the right side of the rink only 1 second later. Then players A2, C2, B2, D2 continue.

Rotation:

A-C, C-A, B-D, D-B / A-B, B-A, C-D, D-A

Variations:

– Dangling instead shooting (B)

– Different styles of shooting

– Screening player in the crease

– Two passes and two shots instead of one


Drill no.45 – “Cross”

Description:

Player A1 and Player B1 starts. In the same time Player C1 and D1 passes balls to each other, then Player D1 passes the ball to Player A1 and Player A1 shoots. One second later, Player C1 passes the ball to Player B1 and Player B1 shoots.  Then players A2, B2, C2, D2 continue.

Rotation:

A-C, C-A, B-D, D-B / A-B, B-A, C-D, D-A

Variations:

– Dangling instead shooting (B)

– Different styles of shooting

– Screening player in the crease

– Two passes and two shots instead of one


Drill no.46 – “Rear corners”

Description:

Player A1 runs without a ball behind the cage, receives pass from Player B1, turns around, runs with the ball in front of the cage and shoots. Player B1 continues.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Variable running

– Different ways of leading the ball

– Add defending player

– Player can choose the side to run from behind the cage


Drill no.47 – “Short corners”

Description:

Player A1 runs without a ball in front of the cage, receives (in air, bouncing) pass from Player B1 and shoots (one timer). Player B1 continues.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Regular pass

– High pass


Drill no.48 – “Near One-timers”

Description:

Player A1 passes the ball behind the cage to player B1. Then he runs in front of the cage, receives pass from Player B1 (who was passing one-touch) and shoots (one-timer). Player B1 continues.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Add pass with A2

– Different styles of shooting

– Dangling instead shooting

– Shooting only to the specified area of the goal


Drill no.49 – “Mid One-timers”

Description:

Player A1 passes the ball behind the cage to player B1, then he runs around the cone and to the goal, receives pass from Player B1 and shoots (one-timer). Player B1 after receiving the pass leads the ball behind the cage and executes the pass to Player A1 from the other side. Player A2 continues.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Add pass with Player B2

– Add defending player

Don’t forget to change the drill rotation.


Drill no.50 – “Parallel”

Description:

Player A1 and Player B1 starts simultaneously. Player A1 just runs around the cone and shoots, Player B1 spins around the cone and than shoots. Player A2 and B2 continue.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Variable running

– Different ways of leading the ball

– Add passes between A1 and B1

– Repeated shooting (A1 and B1 receives passes from A2 and B2 immediately after they shoot and shoot again)


Drill no.51 – “One-timers”

Description:

Player A1 runs with the ball around the cone, passes the ball to Player B1. Player B1 runs around the cone and shoots. Player A1 receives pass from Player B2 and shoots. Players A2 and B2 continue.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Different styles of shooting

– Different types of passing


Drill no.52 – “Shooting after pass”

Description:

Player B1 runs backwards with the ball to the cone, before spinning around the cone he passes the ball to Player B2 and after the spin he receives the pass and shoots while running. Player A1 continues.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Add pass to Player A1

– Repeated shooting ( B1 receive pass from A1 immediately after he shoots and then he shoots again)

– Screening player in the crease


Drill no.53 – “Upper corners”

Description:

Player A1 runs without the ball in the direction to the middle of the field, then he receives pass from Player B1, leads the ball around the cone and shoots. Player B1 continues.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Different styles of shooting

– Different types of passing – in air

– Second pass from Player B2 an second shot

– Add player to the crease who is trying to deflect the shot


Drill no.54 – “One-timers”

Description:

Players A1 and B1 start simultaneously. They run around to cones, receive passes from passing Player N and shoot (one-touch). Players A2 and B2 continue.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Different styles of shooting

– Different types of passing

– Shooting on two cages

– After shooting Player A1 runs to the cage and he can receive pass from Player B1 (B1 decides whether to shoot or to pass)

Don’t forget to change the passing Player N.


Drill no.55 – “One-timers”

Description:

Players A1 and B1 start simultaneously. They run around to cone and receive passes from passing Player N1 and N2, then they shoot (one-touch). Players A2 and B2 continue.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Different styles of shooting

– Players N1 and N2 are cross passing (N1 to B1 and N2 to A1)

– After shooting Player A1 runs to the cage and he can receive pass from Player B1 (B1 decides whether to shoot or to pass)

Don’t forget to change the passing Player N1 and N2.


Drill no.56 – “One-timers”

Description:

Player B1 runs backwards without the ball to the cone, before spinning around the cone he receives pass from Player B2, after the spin he passes the ball to Player B3, runs toward the cage, receives pass from Player A3 and shoots (one-touch). Player A1 continues.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Different styles of shooting

– Spins around both cones

– Repeated shooting ( B1 receives second pass from B3 immediately after he shoots and then he shoots again)


Drill no.57 – “Shooting after slalom”

Description:

Players A1 and  B1 run slalom (Player A backwards) with the ball and then shoot. Players A2 and B2 continue.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Other type of obstacles (benches) instead of cones

– Pass between A and B after first cone

– Spins around cones


Drill no.58 – “One-timers after slalom”

Description:

Players A1 and  B1 run slalom with the ball – part of the slalom backwards and before the last cone they pass the ball to Players A4 and B4, continue running (Players A spins around the last cone) receive the balls from A4 and B4  and shoot. Players A2 and B2 continue.

Rotation:

A-B, B-A

Variations:

– Different ways of leading the ball

– Pass between A and B after fifth cone

– Shooting on two cages


Drill no.59 – “Big slalom”

Description:

Players 1 starts with ball running backwards, before the  first obstacle he passes the ball to Player 2 and after moving around the obstacle he receives the pass back and continues running the slalom and shoots at the end of the slalom on the goal. Player 2 continues.

Rotation:

1-5, 5-4, 4-3, 3-2, 2-1

Variations:

– More passes with Player 2

– Add defending player

– Other types of obstacles (e.g. benches)


Drill no.60 – “Shooting after spin”

Description:
